Amadioha is the deity of thunder and lightning of the Igbo people of southeastern Nigeria. His color is red, and his symbol is a white ram. Metaphysically, Amadioha represents the collective will of the people. He is often associated with Anyanwu, the Igbo god of the Sun (whom I also depicted in a piece of wearable art). While Anyanwu is more prominent in northern Igboland, Amadioha is more prominent in the southern part.
I show Amadioha as an elemental being, composed entirely of energy. I did this as a departure from a lot of the depictions I saw which almost made him seem like a Black version of Thor (the movie version). I draw him wearing an Igbo “Izzi” masquerade mask of my own design with horns to dignify his symbolic animal, the goat. His throne is based on a pre-Christian artifact that was donated to a museum. I saw it on a Nigerian group on Facebook.
His “armored” bindings are energy dampers to keep the electrical surges under control. His throne in my imagination, acts as a huge capacitor to which he is cable-connected so as to ground some of the electricity. I deliberately made him seem fearful; thunder and lightning personified. I try to have a story behind all my pieces.
