Unisex graphic Hoodie Afrikkan Pantheon (African Gods) Ani
Who knew that the softest hoodie you'll ever own comes with such a cool design. You won't regret buying this classic streetwear piece of apparel with a convenient pouch pocket and warm hood for chilly evenings.
ANI is the Earth goddess of the Igbo (pronounced "Ibo") people who are based in the southeastern region of present-day Nigeria. She is also known as “Ala” and she is associated with fertility. She is seen as the producer of seed in the wombs of expectant mothers. Paradoxically, she is also ruler of the underworld accepting the dead into her body, the earth. Ani is a daughter of Chukwu, the Creator deity.
I have depicted her wearing an "Izzi" mask that represents "Queen of Women" to some of the Ibo people. Each bead in her jewelry contains a fetus like a womb, just like the orb she is examining.
Research for this design revealed how highly skilled the Ibo artisans are with wood carvings. Some of the most beautiful crafts I have seen to date. On one hand, it made it easy to design a mask of my own...on the other hand, even as I created from scratch, I wanted to do the traditional works justice.
