Orunmila, the Yoruba god of divination, healing and destiny. He was also revered by the Yoruba in the southwest of Nigeria as the teacher of mankind, kind of like Prometheus with the Greeks. In my design, his mask is loosely based on a mixture of the Ekiti “Epa” masks and the “Gelede” crest masks. The glowing eyes in the headdress faces symbolize his divination powers. The figurines carved into the headdress are Ifa priests. The circling globes around his hands and his starry cloak symbolize Orunmila’s role in the creation of the earth.
