This couple is Asase Yaa and Nyame the married deities of the Bono people of Ghana and Cote D’Ivoire.
Nyame was worshipped as the sky god and creator of the universe. He was seen as omniscient and omnipresent.
Asase Yaa was worshipped as the earth goddess of fertility, the upholder of truth, and the creator goddess who came to fetch Bono people's souls to the otherworld at the time of death. She was credited as being the nurturer of the earth and was considered to provide sustenance for all. She was the mother of Anansi the trickster spider god. Just as with the fables of Anansi, worship of Asase Yaa travelled with slaves to the plantations of Jamaica.
Her “Adinkra” symbol is mounted on her crown.
